For the first time ever, NORDP will host a Career Center during the annual Conference. Below is a list of the positions employers currently have plans to interview for. You can indicate your interest in a position by emailing your resume and a cover letter to [email protected]. We'll forward your materials on to the employer and they'll contact you directly if interested with more details ... and possibly arrange to meet with you at conference.

The NORDP Career Center will be held in the Washington Room of the Omni Providence Hotel during the conference and will be available for scheduling on Monday (4/29/19), Tuesday (4/30/19), and Wednesday (5/1/19) between 9AM - 5PM.

We will provide you with a semi-private interview area with signage indicating your organization's presence to potential candidates. We encourage you to use these facilities to speak to qualified applicants at pre-arranged times during the conference, dates/times to be announced.

 

1 - Research Funding Development Manager ($90,000 - $115,000)
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY

The Research Funding Development Manager (RFDM) provides robust, proactive support to MSK investigators and researchers to enhance the fundability of their research proposals. The RFDM: partners with faculty and others to identify funding sources aligned with research interests and priorities, in support of devising a comprehensive funding development and submission strategy; interprets and explains funding agency and institutional requirements and policies and develops resources which improve proposal quality; and develops and delivers training and outreach programs to the MSK research community to promote funding development and grantsmanship best practices.  Details.


2 - Scientific Development Manager (~$125,000)
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY

The Scientific Development Manager (SDM) partners with Office of Research and Project Administration (ORPA) Sloan-Kettering Institute (SKI) and Memorial Hospital (MEM) leadership to foster innovative, collaborative team science and provide direct and coordinated support for proposal development and the production of high value/impact complex grant proposals submitted to external sponsors.  The SDM utilizes scientific knowledge and expertise to enhance the ORPA Funding Development Team’s capacity and effectiveness in identifying funding opportunities aligned with the research interests of MSK faculty in support of maximizing external research funding for key programs and priorities. 


3 - Proposal Development Specialist ($40,000 - $55,000)
University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Specialist responsibilities include: editing and improving the content, clarity, organization, and visual appeal of grant proposals; interpreting and providing guidance on sponsor requirements; problem solving and keeping investigators and small teams on task during the proposal development process; arranging external expert review of proposals; identifying and disseminating funding opportunities; and supporting team members managing large interdisciplinary or multi-investigator projects.


4 - Proposal Development Coordinator ($55,000 - $75,000)
University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Start: Fall 2019

Coordinator responsibilities include: editing and improving the content, clarity, organization, and visual appeal of grant proposals; interpreting and providing guidance on sponsor requirements; problem solving and keeping investigators and small teams on task during the proposal development process; arranging external expert review of proposals; identifying and disseminating funding opportunities; supporting team members managing large interdisciplinary or multi-investigator projects; write non-technical portions of applications; manage large interdisciplinary or multi-investigator projects; liaise with external funders; participate in faculty development activities; deliver presentations, lead workshops, and complete special projects as needed.


5 - Grant & Research Development Associate (~$100,000)

Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York, NY

The mission of the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (VP&S) Office for Research is to facilitate the highest caliber of biomedical research, from basic to translational to clinical, among the VP&S faculty, students, and staff at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. The office works across departments, centers, and institutes to foster interdisciplinary research collaborations, and supports efforts to secure funding for such collaborations. To fulfill this goal, the VP&S Office for Research is seeking a Grant & Research Development Associate who will assist faculty in the writing, editing, and strategic planning of individual as well as complex, multi-investigator, and multi-institutional grants. This is an opportunity to work one-on-one with faculty as well as in teams to create compelling proposals that will further individual investigator studies and larger, school-wide initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a combined science and writing background as well as extensive experience with writing grant proposals, particularly for NIH. Details.


6 - Research Development Officer (~$84,000 - $84,000+)

University of Texas at Austin
Start: ASAP

Assists the VPR portfolio, colleges and organized research units across the University with identifying, developing, acquiring and supporting major biomedical research grants. Develops strategies to increase external funding from biomedical research sponsors to the University. Required qualifications: PhD in a research discipline and 3 years’ post-degree experience in research development. Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail. Experience managing complex proposals involving 20 or more active participants. Proposal development experience including technical writing. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred qualifications: PhD in a bioscience, biomedical or health-related research discipline with experience writing and submitting grants to NIH. 5 years’ experience in research development. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage program delivery. Ability to distill complex research concepts into simple terms that convey impact to general audiences. 7 - Research Development Officer II (~$50,000 - $60,000)

University of California, Merced

The Research Development Officer II (RDO) will have a direct working relationship with assigned faculty in their pursuit of extramural research funding. This intermediate-level professional position will work under general supervision in the Office of Research Development.  The RDO assists in identifying proposal opportunities, determining fit between the opportunity and the proposed research, and supports faculty in the development of proposals of moderate scope where analysis of data requires an intermediate understanding of Federal and non-Federal agency regulations. The RDO assists faculty in preparation of non-technical portions of research proposals in compliance with institutional and research sponsor policies.  This position requires a person with demonstrated intermediate level understanding of research development principles and research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal extramural research and industry sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment.


8. Scientific Editor and Writing Consultant (~$40,000)

The Scientific Editing and Research Communication Core helps researchers succeed with their funding efforts and scholarship by providing in-depth advice on how to maximize the clarity of scientific documents. The core is considering hiring additional staff during the next year. The Scientific Editor and Writing Consultant would work in a highly collaborative research environment, with users across a broad range of career levels (faculty, fellows, post-docs, staff, and students), subject areas, and cultural backgrounds. S/he would serve as a point of contact for scientific editing and writing projects, and would provide detailed feedback on documents at multiple levels, including: the science/technical aspects, presentation, style and clarity, and mechanics. In addition, s/he would be expected to develop writing courses with other core staff and to teach such courses independently, as well as to prepare resources for authors and assist the core director with the gathering of metrics related to core effectiveness, the analysis of such metrics, the identification of strategies to improve services provided, and the hiring and training of new staff. S/he might also be asked to participate in the development of complex, multi-projects proposals, to represent the core at meetings of other university offices/units, and to participate in professional development activities.
